Unless the Lord builds the house the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. Psalm 127:1

Charlie Samuel Overton, Jr., a lifelong resident of Greensburg, LA passed peacefully from his earthly to his heavenly home on February 22, 2016. "Junior" as he was known to all-was born on November 3, 1961 to the late Margaret Perkins Overton and Charlie S. Overton, Sr., Junior received his formal education in the St. Helena Parish School System, graduated from St. Helena High School in 1980. He was a proud linebacker for the undefeated St. Helena Indians. Junior and his loving wife of 31 years, Carmen Nereida Harris, married on September 7, 1984. Together they raised their children Charlie, III., and Clay, to be capable, thoughtful and caring members of the Greensburg community. During his early years, he joined and attended Turner Chapel AME Church and was a member all his life. For almost 30 years, Junior was a logger in his family's business, C&M Timber Company, learning every job-log truck, saw-hand, tree-cutter and foreman loved every minute of his time in the woods. After his father's retirement from the business, Junior worked for Dolese Concrete as a machine operator and for the St. Helena Parish Police Jury until he became too ill to continue. An avid hunter and fisherman, Junior loved the outdoors and loved to joke and make everyone smile. Many people in the community, especially elders, received the benefit of Junior's gift of knowing just what to do to help others. Junior leaves many to cherish his memory, including his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Carmen Overton; sons and their families, Charlie Samuel Overton, III.
