David Dorsey

David Dorsey Jr. was born on December 12, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Rose Easter Dorsey and David Dorsey Sr. After graduating from high school, David joined the United States Army from June of 1946 until June of 1949. David entered a segregated Army and became one of the first soldiers to help integrate all units in the Army. After leaving the Army, He graduated from Morgan State in 1954 and moved to Iowa City, Iowa to work for University of Iowa Hospital where he met his future wife Mary Ann Grolmus. Married in 1956, they moved to Pittsburgh, PA were David resided until 2018. They were married 65 years. From that union came three daughters, Denise Ann Warr (Dartanian), Leah Dorsey-Thompkins (Raymond) and Lisa Dorsey, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. David worked for the State of Pennsylvania for over 40 years and for the Pittsburgh Civic Center for over 50 years. David returned to New Orleans, LA in 2018 where he resided at the Home Life in the Garden until he was called home on February 17, 2021. David's service is scheduled for 10:00AM March 12, 2021 at MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home, 87 Paddio-Johnson Lane, Greensburg, LA 70441, presiding Reverend Moses A. Simms Jr. David will be interned at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 West Mount Pleasant Road, Zachary, LA 70791.
