James “Jim” Harris, Jr.
James Harris, was born on May 2, 1932, and passed away peacefully at his home on May 26, 2022 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was affectionately called "Sonny" by his siblings and family and "Jim" to others and friends. He served in the United States Air Force, was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-10, and a former member of Pennington YMCA Board of Directors. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church until his failing health. James is survived by his wife, Karen Harris; son, Jorick Harris; two step-children: Damon Perkins and Ashlea Howard-Jones, and a great-nephew, Cassidy Briggs, to whom he faithfully devoted love, guidance, and upbringing as a son; niece and nephew he raised: Dena Briggs and Charles Bradford; three sisters: Israel “Bonnie” DeGree of Lansing, Michigan, Carol B. Wilson, Gloria B. Ferguson; and brother, Rev. Gerald W. Boatner (Sandra) all of Baton Rouge, LA, two Godchildren: Kennedi Boatner and Maison Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews many relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Harris, Sr., and Ivory Derozan Boatner; stepfather, Israel Boatner, Sr; Siblings: Israel Boatner, Jr, Gregory L. Boatner, Shirley A. Boatner, and nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment of ashes: Port Hudson National Cemetery, 20978 Port Hickey Rd., Zachary, LA 70791 on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
